Nestled in the heart of Cambridge, the Masjid Al Ikhlas & Cambridge Islamic Centre stands as a testament to community spirit. This mosque, located at 4 Devonshire Road, serves as a vital hub for the local Muslim population and the wider community. Masjid Al Ikhlas & Cambridge Islamic Centre offers a place of worship, but it’s much more than that. It’s a place where people connect, learn, and grow together.

The Cambridge Islamic Centre’s story began in 2008. The local Muslim community recognized a need for a dedicated space. They envisioned a center that could provide a range of services, from Janazah services and talks to women’s and youth groups. The community also wanted a social space, a coffee bar, and areas for special interest groups.

Finding the right building was crucial. The community searched for a property with specific features. They needed a building classified for public worship, with a flexible layout that could be adapted and improved. Proximity to transport links was also important. The Cambridge Rail station, just a five-minute walk away, made 4 Devonshire Road an ideal location. The cost was another significant factor.

To manage the purchase, the community established the Cambridge Muslim Trust as a charitable organization. Through collective effort and fundraising, the community raised the necessary funds. In November 2008, they proudly received the keys to their new center. The Masjid Al Ikhlas & Cambridge Islamic Centre was born. The current facilities, including the wudu areas, sisters’ section, and kitchen, were initially intended as temporary. The long-term vision involved extensive renovations and building work. The plan was to open the center fully only after these improvements were completed. However, the community’s needs were immediate. The center opened its doors, serving its purpose even as it evolved. Inside Masjid Al Ikhlas, you’ll find amenities like restrooms, parking, and facilities for women and wheelchair users. The mosque primarily caters to the Sunni denomination, with services conducted in English.

Masjid Al Ikhlas & Cambridge Islamic Centre is also known as the Cambridge Islamic Centre and the Cambridge Muslim Trust. It has a capacity of 200 people. The center stands as a testament to the power of community, a place built on shared dreams and collective effort. It continues to serve as a beacon of faith and community in Cambridge.
