“Empowerment School”. Does that term intrigue you? It is linked to Osaka Prefectural Yodogawa Seiryu High School.

Welcome. Today we stand before Osaka Prefectural Yodogawa Seiryu High School. It is more than just a school. It is a symbol of transformation and new beginnings.

Osaka Prefectural Yodogawa Seiryu High School was established in April 2018. It was born from the merging of two schools. Those schools were Osaka Prefectural Kitayodo High School and Osaka Prefectural Nishiyodogawa High School. The new school was built on the site of Kitayodo High School.

The name “Yodogawa Seiryu” was carefully chosen. Both predecessor schools were on the Yodo River’s right bank. The name connects to the area and its people. “Seiryu” means clear stream. It symbolizes the students’ earnest efforts. They strive to improve themselves like a clear, flowing stream.

Yodogawa Seiryu High School is an Empowerment School. This means it focuses on essential skills. These skills help students thrive in society. Students learn to think critically and live resiliently. They also revisit fundamental academic skills.

The school’s curriculum is comprehensive. It features an integrated course. Within this course are four series. There is information and arts. There is business and culture. There are environment and health. And there are mathematics and humanities. This allows students to choose their path. They can tailor their studies to their abilities and goals.

The school song is called “Wings to the Future”. The lyrics were written by Nanami Aikawa. She attended Kitayodo High School but left in her second year. Kota Oshio composed the music. He is a Kitayodo High School alumnus.

Yodogawa Seiryu High School continues the UNESCO activities. These were started by its predecessor schools. The school promotes international understanding through education.

The school’s symbol represents its history and future. Two overlapping squares signify the merging of the two previous schools. The symbol also includes a star. This is a tribute to Nishiyodogawa High School. Three lines represent the Yodo River’s flow. These lines also form the letter “Y”. It also looks like wings. This symbolizes the students soaring towards the future.

The school motto is “Self-respect, Self-study, Self-discipline”. These values guide the students. They encourage them to cherish themselves. They also encourage them to learn independently and act responsibly.

Osaka Prefectural Yodogawa Seiryu High School is more than bricks and mortar. It is a place of growth. It is a place of learning. It is a place of opportunity. It is a place where students prepare for their future.
