Grogan’s Mill, officially the Village of Grogan’s Mill, whispers tales of transformation. Established in 1972, it stands as the first village within The Woodlands.

Grogan’s Mill began with a vision. George P. Mitchell, a Texas entrepreneur, dreamed of a community blending jobs and homes. He acquired land and involved ecological specialists. Construction began in 1972, marking a new era.

At the grand opening on October 19, 1974, a flag-raising ceremony marked the occasion. Grogan’s Mill then consisted of families in Settlers Corner. It also featured a conference center, country club, and shopping area. Model homes, apartments, office buildings, and recreational amenities completed the scene.

Before The Woodlands, the Grogan’s Mill territory had a rich history. The Bidai tribe likely inhabited it. From the 1850s to 1950s, the timber industry thrived. The Grogan Cochran Lumber Company, the last sawmill, operated until 1964.

Grogan’s Mill faced challenges early on. The 1970s energy crisis stalled growth. However, development of estate neighborhoods began in 1980. Grogan’s Point became a model for future villages.

Today, Grogan’s Mill boasts about 5,100 homes. Approximately 13,000 residents live in its 22 neighborhoods. Over 50 businesses thrive here. The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center remains a notable landmark.

Grogan’s Mill offers convenient access to amenities. Interstate 45 and Hardy Toll Road are nearby. Residents enjoy shopping, dining, and entertainment options. Golf courses, parks, and trails enhance the quality of life.

The Grogan’s Mill Village Association enhances community life. It serves as a liaison between residents and The Woodlands Township. Committees address civic and social issues.

Grogan’s Mill features a variety of parks. Sawmill Park and Tamarac Park offer green spaces. Smaller parks like Cokeberry Pond Park and High Oaks Park dot the landscape.

Education is a priority in Grogan’s Mill. Students attend schools within the Conroe Independent School District. Hailey Elementary, Knox Junior High, and Woodlands High serve the community.

Grogan’s Mill has seen changes over the years. Home sizes range from 1,100 to over 8,500 square feet. Prices vary from $225,000 to over $4,000,000. Traditional and modern home styles are available.

Grogan’s Mill stands as a testament to vision and planning. It is a vibrant community within The Woodlands. Its history and amenities make it a special place. The legacy of George P. Mitchell lives on in Grogan’s Mill.
