“If you do not have a lover go to Ha Pagoda then you will.” Imagine those words echoing in the hearts of Hanoi’s singletons as they approach Chùa Cổ Hạc. This pagoda is also known as Ha Pagoda. It is a renowned place for those seeking love.

Chùa Cổ Hạc stands as more than just a religious site. It is a cultural touchstone. It is a place where the hopes and dreams of the lovelorn intertwine with ancient traditions.

Many young people believe they will find their other half by praying for Buddha’s blessings here at Chùa Cổ Hạc. Van Anh, a 25-year-old officer, is one such believer. She visited the pagoda when attending a wedding in Hanoi. Only a week later, a man she had a crush on texted her. They started dating and married months later.

Two sisters from Hanoi, Linh Van and Bich Ngoc, also visited Chùa Cổ Hạc. Van had never had a relationship. Ngoc was divorced. After one month, Van found her first boyfriend and Ngoc met her second husband.

These stories fuel the pagoda’s reputation. Every day, single people come to Chùa Cổ Hạc hoping to find someone. Couples pray for long-lasting relationships. Those unlucky in love wish for better luck.

When visiting Chùa Cổ Hạc, people usually bring three offering trays for blessings. The first is for the Tam Bao place where Buddhas are worshipped. It includes incense flowers fresh fruits and sweets. The second is for the Deity. It includes votive money tea wine and non-vegetarian food. The last is for Mother Goddess. It includes fresh flowers betel and areca cakes candies and sponsored money.

Roses are also available near Chùa Cổ Hạc. They are a symbol of love and considered an appropriate flower to offer when praying for love and marriage.

Chùa Cổ Hạc is on Chua Ha Street in Cau Giay District. Hidden in a small street, two legends explain its origin. One says King Ly Thanh Tong ordered it built as a gesture to Buddha. The king was barren until his wife conceived after praying for Buddha’s blessing. The other legend says King Le Thanh Tong built it to honor heroes who enthroned him in 1460. These heroes are Nguyen Trai Nguyen Xi and Dinh Liet.

Wars damaged Chùa Cổ Hạc over time. However, two wealthy families helped restore it in 1680. Like other Vietnamese temples, Chùa Cổ Hạc worships Buddha and local deities. There are separate areas for each. In the yard, old trees from India, the birthplace of Buddhism, provide a peaceful space. Some trees are about 300 years old. Their shadows create a tranquil atmosphere in bustling Hanoi.

Whether seeking love, offering thanks, or simply finding peace Chùa Cổ Hạc welcomes all. May your visit bring you the blessings you seek. May you find love, happiness and serenity within these ancient walls.
