The community comes together for various events. One highlight is the annual Hammer Weihnachtsmarkt, or Christmas market. This market is a joint effort between the Ev.luth. Kirchengemeinde zu Hamburg-Hamm and the Kath. Pfarrei St. Franziskus. It brings together people from all walks of life.
At the Hammer Weihnachtsmarkt, you can find all sorts of treats. There are culinary delights, arts, crafts, and clothes. The aroma of Glühwein and Kinderpunsch fills the air. The Ukrainian choir Malven sometimes performs surprise sets. The Weihnachtsmarkt supports Ecohope in South Africa and local community projects.
Music is a central part of Herz Jesu. The church is home to an organ built by VEB Orgelbau Eule in 1981. This instrument has 24 stops. It has two manuals and a pedal. The organ enhances the worship experience.
