“Avanzar” it means to move forward in Spanish. That’s the meaning behind Dojima Avanza’s name. This impressive building stands before you a testament to Osaka’s drive.
Dojima Avanza isn’t just an office building. It’s a hub of activity. It’s a place where business meets culture. History blends with modernity. Nippon Life Insurance Mainichi Shimbun and Dai-ichi Life jointly developed this structure. It occupies the former site of the Mainichi Shimbun Osaka headquarters.
The building boasts 23 floors above ground and two below. Inside you’ll find one of the largest bookstores in the Kansai region. Numerous restaurants and shops are also here. This isn’t just a place to work it’s a place to live and play.
But Dojima Avanza’s story isn’t only about commerce. It’s entwined with the history of the area. Nestled in its plaza is the Dojima Yakushido Temple. This ancient shrine dates back to the time of Empress Suiko. It’s said to be linked to the very origin of the Dojima district’s name. The temple was redesigned to blend seamlessly with the modern building. Its reflective surfaces mirror the glass and stone of Dojima Avanza. It’s a stunning juxtaposition of old and new.
The temple’s relocation wasn’t always smooth. Legend speaks of a curse after it was moved. People involved in the relocation died mysteriously. They fell victim to what is now known as the “bane of the healing Buddha.” Thankfully the temple was returned to its original location in 1999. It now sits peacefully in Dojima Avanza’s serene garden.
Dojima Avanza is more than steel and glass. It’s a place where history whispers secrets. Modernity surges forward. It’s a place where you can feel the pulse of Osaka. A blend of old and new business and leisure tradition and progress. This place is Dojima Avanza a true reflection of Osaka’s dynamic spirit. It’s a place to explore. A place to remember. And a place you won’t soon forget.
