Amidst the vibrant energy of Riyadh, the Al-Shabab Club Stadium stands proudly. It’s more than just a stadium. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of Al-Shabab FC, a club deeply intertwined with the city’s history. Founded in 1947 as Shabab Al-Riyadh, this club adopted the name Al-Shabab, meaning “youth” in Arabic, in 1967. This name reflects the club’s early focus on nurturing young talent. This set them apart from rivals who relied on senior players. Al-Shabab Club Stadium, initially used primarily as a training ground, has undergone significant transformations. In 2019, it hosted its first competitive match and league game, marking a new chapter in its history. The stadium continued to evolve. In 2021, the Ministry of Sport initiated a major redevelopment project. This included expanding the capacity to 15,000, removing the running track, and adding a roof. The revitalized Al-Shabab Club Stadium is now a symbol of the club’s progress and ambition, hosting thrilling matches in the Saudi Pro League. The stadium also serves as home to the Al-Shabab Women’s team. Al-Shabab FC has a history marked by both triumphs and challenges. They were the first club in Riyadh and achieved milestones like winning the King Saud Cup in 1955. However, internal conflicts led to the departure of members and the formation of a rival club, Al-Hilal. Al-Shabab persevered, becoming the first Saudi club to win three consecutive Premier League titles in 1991, 1992, and 1993. They were also the first to establish revenue-generating projects, including a hotel and shopping mall. Today, Al-Shabab Club Stadium stands as a symbol of resilience. It showcases the club’s unwavering commitment to youth development and its pursuit of excellence in Saudi Arabian football.
