“What if animal diseases went unchecked?” This question drives the vital work done here at the National Veterinary Laboratory. Founded in 1985 by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, it stands as a crucial government diagnostic center. It serves the UAE and neighboring countries.
The National Veterinary Laboratory isn’t just a building. It is a commitment to animal health and public safety. Think of it as the first line of defense against threats to livestock, pets, and even human health. It all began with a vision to provide permanent treatment solutions for veterinary-related diseases. Dedicated teams work tirelessly researching and delivering results. These results ensure the National Veterinary Laboratory remains a global leader in veterinary science.
Inside the National Veterinary Laboratory skilled scientists and technicians work. They perform diagnostic testing for a wide range of animals. Camels, horses, falcons, cattle and even fish benefit from their expertise. They also test zoo and pet animals. The lab aids in diagnosing, preventing, and controlling both infectious and non-infectious animal diseases. This protects the region’s diverse animal population.
Pre-import testing is a critical function here at the National Veterinary Laboratory. This prevents the introduction of exotic animal diseases into the UAE. Imagine the consequences if a new, devastating disease were to arrive. The National Veterinary Laboratory acts as a shield.
Once, the Molecular Biology & Genomics Centre was housed within these very walls. It started as a molecular diagnostic lab in 1997. Its primary goal was to identify and control infectious diseases. It has grown and evolved over the years.
During the 2009 Swine flu pandemic, this lab played a pivotal role. It was the first and only testing center for Dubai and northern emirates to carry out Real-Time PCR for H1N1. Over 10000 samples were processed here. This quick response helped safeguard the community.
The National Veterinary Laboratory also played a crucial role during the MERS Coronavirus outbreak. In 2013 it was selected as the only center in Dubai. It facilitated the detection of this deadly pandemic.
The Central Veterinary Research Laboratory operates around the clock to cooperate with national and international veterinary services. The new working hours for Central Veterinary Research Laboratory are from Monday to Friday, 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM.
The National Veterinary Laboratory is more than just a laboratory. It’s a symbol of Dubai’s commitment to progress and innovation. It stands as a testament to the vision of its founders. It is a place where science meets dedication. It protects our animals and our community.
