Gazing up at the golden dome of Sri Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, did you ever imagine it was once a humble bungalow? In the 17th century, this very spot was the Jaisinghpura Palace, home to Raja Jai Singh. Sri Bangla Sahib Gurudwara has a rich history. In 1664, Delhi was ravaged by smallpox and cholera. Guru Har Krishan, the eighth Sikh Guru, resided in the Raja’s bungalow. He selflessly served the suffering, offering aid and fresh water from the bungalow’s well. Tragically, the Guru himself succumbed to the disease. Raja Jai Singh, moved by the Guru’s compassion, built a small tank over the well. This tank, now the sacred Sarovar, is believed to hold healing waters, its serenity a balm to the soul. The water is called “Amrit”, a nectar sought by Sikhs worldwide. Sri Bangla Sahib Gurudwara continues its tradition of selfless service. The langar hall, capable of seating hundreds, feeds thousands daily, a 24/7 testament to Sikh hospitality. From rolling chapatis to serving hot meals, volunteers ensure no one leaves hungry. Sri Bangla Sahib Gurudwara stands as a beacon of faith and service, a place where history and compassion intertwine beneath a golden dome.
