Established in 1960, the Foreign Trade University (FTU) stands as a testament to Vietnam’s dedication to international commerce and cooperation. Originally a part of the University of Economics and Finance, the Foreign Trade University quickly gained its independence. In 1962, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong officially separated the Faculty of International Relations, birthing the University of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The Foreign Trade University shared a campus with the Institute of Foreign Affairs. Can you picture the bustling activity as future diplomats and trade experts honed their skills? This period saw the university relocate temporarily to Thai Nguyen province during wartime, demonstrating resilience and a commitment to education. In 1967, another pivotal moment arrived. Prime Minister Pham Van Dong again signed a decree. This decree separated the University of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, creating the independent Foreign Trade University. This marked a new era for the institution. The Foreign Trade University then fell under the Ministry of Foreign Trade. A move to Ha Tay province, followed by a return to Hanoi, solidified its presence in the capital. The Foreign Trade University continued to evolve. In 1984, it transitioned from the Ministry of Foreign Trade to the Ministry of Education and Training. This shift brought restructuring and strengthening of its various departments. The Foreign Trade University expanded its reach with a new campus in Ho Chi Minh City in 1993. The university also embraced postgraduate education, launching master’s programs in 1995 and Ph.D. programs in 1998. The Foreign Trade University has become a respected institution in Vietnam. It’s known for its rigorous academic standards and emphasis on international collaboration. FTU now stands as a vital hub for developing Vietnam’s future business leaders and fostering global partnerships.
