The cornerstone laid by President Truman. That’s a fact that always stops people in their tracks. Right here before us stands Westminster Presbyterian Church. A place of worship steeped in history. Its story begins not in grand architectural designs but in the hearts of 15 people. In December 1939 Reverend Frederick Haverkamp led the initial meeting. They dreamt of a church a community. Formally organized in 1940 with 38 charter members. They opened their first building on Cameron Mills Road in 1942. The congregation grew quickly. By 1952 they needed a larger sanctuary. That’s when Harry S Truman himself laid the cornerstone. This very building we see today. A testament to their faith and dedication. Westminster Presbyterian Church isn’t just bricks and mortar. It’s the legacy of generations. A vibrant community. Around a thousand members strong in 2015. Their 75th anniversary. They actively pursue a worship-centered life. The Word of God is proclaimed. It is celebrated in song and sacrament. Fellowship and mission are central to their lives. They support each other growing in faith. They serve God in their community and beyond. Westminster Presbyterian Church welcomes all seeking the meaning of Jesus Christ. A place of spiritual growth. A welcoming community. A piece of Houston’s history. This church is more than just a building. It is a living testament to enduring faith. It’s a story worth remembering.
