It evolved from SELETE a teacher training institution founded in 1959. In 2002 ASPETE officially came into being.
SELETE’s establishment was driven by Greece’s post-World War II economic needs. The Greek government recognized the importance of vocational training. This led to the creation of a system for technical and vocational education. Training teachers became essential. SELETE was founded in 1959 to fulfill this need.
Initially SELETE focused on pedagogical training. Technical or vocational subjects were secondary. Later a new approach emerged. It integrated pedagogical training with technical skills. This led to the creation of two separate schools within SELETE. One was the Pedagogical Technical School PATES. The other was the Higher School of Pedagogical & Technical Education ASETEM.
ASPETE continues this mission today. It provides technological and pedagogical education. ASPETE promotes research in educational technology. It offers training for prospective secondary teachers. The goal is to ensure excellence in all academic programs.
