Beneath the towering skyscrapers of Ho Chi Minh City lies Nguyen Thai Binh Ward. It’s a place where history whispers from colonial-era buildings and the echoes of Saigon’s past mingle with the hum of modern finance. Nguyen Thai Binh Ward wasn’t always the financial heart of the city. Before 1975, this area was part of two different districts. There was Bến Nghé Ward in the 1st District and Cầu Ông Lãnh Ward in the 2nd District. Cống Lý Street, now Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa Street, marked the boundary. After reunification, both districts became part of District 1. The old wards were reorganized. Then in 1988, Nguyen Thai Binh Ward emerged from the merger of wards 18 and 19. Today, Nguyen Thai Binh Ward is known as the “Wall Street of Saigon”. It pulsates with the energy of banking and trading activity. Numerous transaction offices line the streets. The State Bank of Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City branch stands here. The Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) also calls Nguyen Thai Binh Ward home.
