Born from a divine vision in 1994 House of Refuge Ministries officially opened its doors in 2001. It stands as a beacon of hope for families shattered by abuse of all kinds. This isn’t just a building. It’s a sanctuary a place where victims find solace and strength. The ministry’s founders recognized a desperate need. They saw the silent suffering of countless families torn apart by violence. House of Refuge Ministries was their answer.
Initially support groups called Refuge Groups offered vital support to abused women. The ministry then expanded its reach by creating the Tearing Down the Walls workshop. This program educated churches and communities about the devastating effects of domestic abuse. By 2005 the ministry had already impacted over 600 lives. The number continued to grow year after year demonstrating the ministry’s increasing effectiveness.
In 2006 House of Refuge Ministries opened a Women’s Refuge Center in St Peters Missouri. It served as a safe haven a place where women could heal and regain their strength. The center provided comprehensive services including counseling resource referrals and emotional support. Sadly this center closed in 2012. The ministry relocated to St Charles Missouri establishing a Prayer and Worship Center. This location serves as the ministry’s headquarters and offers a space for spiritual renewal.
Expanding its services the ministry added a licensed counselor to its staff. They also introduced certified Biblical counseling to aid those suffering from trauma. The ministry even expanded into Texas in 2015 becoming a registered non-profit organization there. They also launched Sisters of Worth in God (SoWING) a program focused on the spiritual and emotional development of young girls. SoWING offers a unique Queen Esther Debutante program with scholarships for graduating seniors.
House of Refuge Ministries continues its vital work today. The ministry provides teaching housing counseling and abuse awareness programs. They offer prayer intercession and resource referrals meeting the physical emotional and spiritual needs of those affected by abuse. Their foundation is rooted in Psalm 91 a testament to their faith and commitment. Their work is a testament to the power of compassion and faith. It’s a powerful reminder that even in the darkest of times hope and healing are possible. Their mission continues to resonate. It offers hope for a better future for countless individuals and families.
