Did you know this green oasis was once a swamp? Welcome to the Höchster Stadtpark. This park offers a special charm with its picturesque pond. A small arched bridge spans it gracefully.

The Höchster Stadtpark’s story began with Viktor Palleske. He was the mayor of Höchst. Palleske recognized the need for recreational space. The industrial town lacked sufficient green areas for its workers. So, between 1908 and 1911, the Höchster Stadtpark was created.

Gartenarchitekt Robert Waldecker partnered with Felix Hartrath. Hartrath was a garden director from Mönchengladbach. Together, they designed the park on former swampland. The park was even known as Palleske-Park until the 1960s. This honored the mayor’s vision.

Around 1930, the park expanded. The Breuerwiesen area was added. The pond was enlarged. Today, sports facilities border the park. The Alte Höchster Friedhof sits to the northwest. To the east, extensive Kleingartenanlagen stretch to the Nidda.

During World War II, the park served a practical purpose. It was used to grow fruits and vegetables. This helped the community during difficult times.

The Höchster Stadtpark has been renovated. The playground and bridge were renewed. The shoreline was redesigned. These improvements ensure the park remains vibrant.

The pond covers around 1,900 square meters. It features an arched bridge and water lilies. The old trees offer shade. There is also a large lawn for relaxation.

The Helene-Lange-School borders the park since 1965. Sports facilities of SG 01 Hoechst are nearby.

The park is a designated landscape protection area. This helps to preserve its natural beauty. Key rules include keeping dogs on leashes. The park is always accessible and free to enter.

The Höchster Stadtpark is part of Frankfurt’s Grüngürtel. You can reach it by bus. Take bus 55 to Eltviller Strasse. Limited parking is available on Breuenwiesenstrasse.

Rosemarie Heilig mentioned the park’s magical pond. She predicted couples would come from all over. They would take photos by the enchanting pond.

The park has two playgrounds. These include a mud area. There is also a skating rink and streetball facilities. A lawn provides space to relax.

The Höchster Stadtpark is a testament to community vision. From a swamp to a beloved park. It continues to offer recreation and natural beauty. Take a moment to appreciate the history and tranquility around you. The Höchster Stadtpark is more than just a park. It is a living piece of Höchst’s heritage.
