Picture this a grand neoclassical building nestled within the lush greenery of Monza Park. This is Cascina Costa Bassa. Its elegant facade hints at a rich history. Cascina Costa Bassa wasn’t always a vibrant senior center.
Cascina Costa Bassa has a fascinating past. It started life as a stable. Specifically the Savoy’s royal horse hospital. Imagine the elegant horses resting here after royal rides through the park. The Savoys chose Monza for their summer retreat. They built the magnificent Villa Reale and its surrounding buildings. Cascina Costa Bassa was one of these.
Later Cascina Costa Bassa fell into disrepair. It faced the risk of being lost forever. Then in the early 1980s something remarkable happened. The La Meridiana Cooperative stepped in. They saw the potential. They transformed this neglected building into a pioneering senior center. It became the first of its kind in Lombardy. This innovative project breathed new life into Cascina Costa Bassa.
The building’s neoclassical style is evident. A central square hall features four stately columns. This hall leads to side rooms and an internal staircase to the upper floor. The main facade boasts four Doric columns topped with a triangular pediment. Decorative brick arches adorn the sides.
Today Cascina Costa Bassa continues its legacy of care and community. It offers a range of services for the elderly. It shows the enduring power of revitalization and community spirit. A testament to the past. A beacon of hope for the future. Cascina Costa Bassa stands as a symbol of transformation. It reminds us of the importance of preserving history. It shows us the potential to create something new and beautiful. It’s a building that has truly come alive.
