In 1977, a small seed of faith was planted in Brooklyn. This seed blossomed into the Iglesia Misionera De Jesus. American missionaries Rafael and Norma Brandemburg, along with Dominican believers, founded the first Christian congregation of the Missionary Church. They focused on the spiritual and material needs of the Hispanic population in Williamsburg. Pastor Felipe Arias and his wife Ursula joined the Brandemburgs. In 1983, they became pastors of the growing congregation. The Iglesia Misionera De Jesus moved to Cypress Hills in 1984. Their address was 93 Norwood Avenue. Since 2000, the Iglesia Misionera De Jesus has thrived at 734 Jamaica Avenue. The church’s purpose, aligned with the Missionary Church, is to be God’s people in the world. They aim to build His church, evangelize, disciple, and multiply growing churches. The Iglesia Misionera De Jesus believes the Bible is God’s word. They believe in one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They believe it’s God’s will that all be saved. They preach that Jesus Christ died and rose for redemption. They believe in the Holy Spirit’s power. The Iglesia Misionera De Jesus is a vibrant hub of activity. Sunday services, Bible study, prayer services, small groups, and even a live radio program fill their weekly schedule. They also serve the community by providing food. The Iglesia Misionera De Jesus continues to serve its community. It provides spiritual guidance and practical help.
