Ever wonder where good citizens of His Majesty are trained? That place is Rajavinit Mathayom School. This state school in Bangkok has a fascinating story. It is a story rooted in royal generosity and a commitment to education.
Rajavinit Mathayom School stands on land gifted by King Bhumibol Adulyadej. This 2.5-acre plot was once part of King Vajiravudh’s Royal Stables. Imagine royal horses roaming where students now learn.
But why build a school here? The answer lies in serving two important groups. First, Rajavinit Mathayom School welcomes students finishing primary school at Rajavinit School. Second, it educates the children of those working in the Royal Household Bureau.
The school’s name itself carries deep meaning. Rajavinit Mathayom means “a place for training children of secondary level to be good citizens of His Majesty.” It reflects the school’s core mission. This mission is to cultivate responsible and ethical individuals.
The Ministry of Education officially announced the establishment of Rajavinit Mathayom School on April 4, 1978. However, the school wasn’t quite ready. For two years, students studied at Rajavinit School. In 1980, they finally moved to this current site.
Even in its early days, Rajavinit Mathayom School faced unique challenges. Two old royal carriage shelters were transformed. They provided extra space for the growing student body. In the first year at the new site, there were twelve Grade 7 classrooms, seven Grade 8 classrooms, and six Grade 9 classrooms.
Rajavinit Mathayom School quickly became known for its excellence. The school is especially known for its music program. Its marching band has achieved remarkable success. In 1998, the marching band won the King’s Cup. It also earned a Gold Medal at the World Wind Symphony Competition in New York, USA.
But Rajavinit Mathayom School offers more than just music. It also boasts a strong sporting culture. Students compete in five sporting houses. These houses are Morakot which is Emerald Green. Petai is Zircon Pink. Pailin is Sapphire Blue. Gomen is Garnet Red. Finally, Bussarakam is Topaz Yellow.
Rajavinit Mathayom School has a team of dedicated directors. They include Lady Poungrat Vivakarn and Lady Somjint Napackseewong. Miss Suwanna Aimpradit and Miss Sukunya Suntipatanachai. Miss Jimsripetch Sakun, Mr. Pirat Korabongkotchmat, and Dr. Buntum Pimpaporn also served as directors.
Several notable alumni have walked these halls. Petai Ploymeka is a Thai singer and actor. Putthipat Kulprechaseth is also a Thai singer.
Today, Rajavinit Mathayom School continues to uphold its mission. It provides a high-quality education. It instills strong values. The school prepares students to be productive members of society. The school’s values include integrity, respect, excellence, and responsibility.
