“A school within a campus?” I hear you wonder. Let’s unravel the story of the Internationale Lomonossow-Campus here in Berlin. The Internationale Lomonossow-Campus isn’t just any school. It’s a vibrant hub of education and culture, a testament to the power of bilingual learning and international understanding. Opened in 2021, this campus is more than just buildings. It’s a dream realized, a vision of a truly integrated learning experience. The Internationale Lomonossow-Campus sprang from humble beginnings. The original Lomonossow-Schule started in 2006 with just 10 first-graders, two teachers, and one educator. Now, the Internationale Lomonossow-Campus boasts a capacity for 600 students from grades 1-13, along with boarding facilities for both domestic and international students.
The Internationale Lomonossow-Campus stands on the site of a former school complex. It was once home to two polytechnical schools, one named after the Soviet cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov and the other after Konstantin Tsiolkovsky. These schools closed in 2001, replaced by the Mahatma-Gandhi-Gymnasium, which was later demolished. From 2011 to 2021, the site housed the Internationale Lomonossow-Schule Berlin-Marzahn, before transforming into the impressive campus you see today.
This campus is a marvel of modern design and functionality, housing a school, two boarding houses, and a renovated sports hall. It even includes a kindergarten named “Mosaik” with 120 spots. The Internationale Lomonossow-Campus emphasizes multilingualism, particularly through the incorporation of students’ native languages. This innovative approach fosters self-confidence and cultural identity, equipping students with essential skills for a globalized world. The campus offers a dual German and Russian curriculum. Students also learn English, further broadening their linguistic horizons. The school even has the authority to conduct Abitur examinations. This allows them to issue the Abitur diploma, a testament to the high educational standards upheld at the Internationale Lomonossow-Campus.
Imagine students from all over the world living and learning together at the Internationale Lomonossow-Campus. Picture them studying in modern classrooms, enjoying meals in the new cafeteria, and spending their free time in comfortable boarding houses. Envision them participating in weekend excursions, exploring the vibrant city of Berlin, and forming lifelong friendships with peers from diverse backgrounds. The Internationale Lomonossow-Campus is not just a school. It’s a microcosm of the world, a place where cultures intersect and future generations are empowered.
