“Ketahuilah bahwa rumah-Ku di bumi ialah masjid.” This divine whisper echoes within these walls. It reminds us of the Masjid Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah’s sacred purpose. We stand at the crossroads of Kuala Lumpur. Ampang. And Sungai Tekali in Pekan Batu 14. This is Hulu Langat.
Masjid Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah stands as a testament to faith and community. Its story began humbly in the 1980s. A simple wooden structure graced a one-acre plot. It stood beside a religious school. Together, they nurtured the spiritual growth of the local children.
Imagine a time when hill water and gasoline lamps were the lifeblood of this sacred space. These were the nostalgic foundations upon which this masjid was built. An unusual source helped fund this early masjid. A large, shady ciku tree stood proudly in front of the old building. Its sweet fruits were abundant. The tree was leased. The proceeds helped support the masjid’s operations.
Around the 1980s, the original masjid. And its adjacent school, were demolished. They had become too old. They could no longer accommodate the growing congregation. In its place rose the new Masjid Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah. It has a four-sided main building crowned with a dome and a minaret. The mosque boasts a main prayer hall. There are lecture rooms. Meeting rooms. And offices. It can welcome over 2000 worshippers at once.
The mimbar, the pulpit, is crafted from beautifully carved wood. Quranic verses adorn it. Intricate carvings embellish the masjid’s facade and doors. They reflect the artistic devotion that went into its creation.
Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah named this masjid after his father. It became Masjid Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah. In 1995, the Sultan officiated the masjid. He performed Friday prayers here alongside the community.
Masjid Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a hub for diverse activities. These activities are organized by the masjid. The congregation. And external agencies. These activities promote worship, community. And education. They benefit the congregation and the wider Muslim community.
In Islam, the masjid is vital. It is not just a place for prayer. It is a center for community development. The Prophet Muhammad established a masjid in Medina. This underscored its importance. It became the heart of all vital activities. It shaped the lives of individuals, families, and the nation. The masjid played many roles. It influenced worship, knowledge, politics, economics. It even touched military affairs. And international relations.
Over time, the masjid’s role in society diminished. Many masjids became places only for Friday prayers. This contrasts with the comprehensive role established by Prophet Muhammad. Masjid Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah strives to revive the masjid’s broader role. It seeks to be a beacon of community development. It aims to enrich the lives of all who seek its shade.
