Unfolding before you lies Bucharest’s vibrant Sector 3. It pulsates with a unique energy. Sector 3 is a captivating blend of history and modernity. It’s the most populous and densely packed sector in Bucharest. It’s also the third largest. In fact, with over 370,000 residents as of December 2021, Sector 3 boasts a population second only to Bucharest itself within Romania. Sector 3 cradles the heart of Bucharest, including the bustling Downtown area and the symbolic Kilometre Zero. It’s bordered by Sector 2 to the north, Ilfov County to the east, Sector 4 to the south, Sector 5 to the southwest, and Sector 1 to the northwest. Within Sector 3, you’ll discover diverse districts. The largest and most populous is Titan. Then there’s Lipscani, the historic old town. It’s a magnet for tourists and the epicenter of Bucharest’s nightlife. Don’t forget the Bucharest Mall, nestled within the Vitan district. Interestingly, two of Sector 3’s districts have earned the distinction of being the most pleasant in the eyes of Bucharest residents. Navigating Sector 3 is easy thanks to its comprehensive public transportation system. Over 50 bus routes and 18 trolleybus lines crisscross the sector. A vast light rail network adds to the mix. Trolleybus routes 70 and 92, along with tram lines 40 and 56, operate exclusively within Sector 3. The Bucharest Metro also serves the sector with 13 stations. Union Square, the oldest and busiest station, and the recently added Policolor station, bookend this underground network. Key metro hubs like Dristor, Titan, and University also reside within Sector 3. For those traveling by car, the Sun Motorway, connecting Bucharest to Constanța, originates in Sector 3. There’s even a CFR train station, Titan Sud, for commuters. Sector 3 prioritizes education. It houses over fifty kindergartens, schools, and public high schools. It’s also home to Hyperion Private University. Among its esteemed high schools are Matei Basarab National College in Downtown Bucharest and Alexandru Ioan Cuza Theoretical High School in Titan. Politically, Sector 3 has been led by Robert Negoiță since 2012. He served as a member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) until 2020. The Local Council comprises 31 seats, distributed among several parties: Save Romania Union (USR), Social Democratic Party (PSD), National Liberal Party (PNL), PRO Romania (PRO), and People’s Movement Party (PMP).
