In 1928 a miraculous statue arrived. This statue of Saint Rita now resides in Vendeville’s Church of Saint-Eubert. Vendeville a commune in the Nord department of northern France is known for this pilgrimage site. It’s a small town part of the Lille European Metropolis. Its location is approximately 62 km southeast of Lille.

The Church of Saint-Eubert built around 1866 by the Leroy brothers is the heart of Vendeville. It’s a stunning example of religious architecture common in the Lille area. The church is incredibly popular. It draws thousands of pilgrims each year. Many come to pray to Saint Rita the patron saint of hopeless causes. They seek her intercession for healing or the success of their endeavors.

The devotion to Saint Rita in Vendeville is deep-rooted. It started with a single statue. Its arrival in 1928 marked a turning point. In 1930 a relic from Cascia where Saint Rita is buried was added. This further cemented the town’s status as a pilgrimage site. The annual pilgrimage culminates on May 22 the feast day of Saint Rita. This day is known as the Blessing of the Roses.

The town itself is relatively small. Its population hovers around 1600 people. Despite its size Vendeville plays a significant role in the region. It’s a place of faith hope and community. It’s also home to a Ricard factory producing millions of bottles annually. This adds an interesting contrast to the town’s spiritual heart.

The story of Vendeville is a testament to faith perseverance and the enduring power of hope. The pilgrims who visit each year bring with them a sense of shared purpose and devotion. They make Vendeville a truly unique and special place. They show the lasting impact of a simple statue. It changed the small town forever. Its impact extends far beyond its borders.
