In 1947, amidst the changing landscape of post-war Japan, Osaka City established the Asahi Junior High School. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in education for the Kikyō ward. Originally, Asahi Junior High School, or Osaka Shiritsu Kikyō Chūgakkō as it is known locally, shared a space with the Osaka City Takabashi Elementary School. Can you imagine starting a new school in a borrowed building? In 1950, a plot of land was chosen for a new dedicated site. The school moved to its current location in 1952. The new building was a marvel of its time. It was constructed of reinforced concrete, based on a model designed by the Ministry of Education. Asahi Junior High School’s design was so innovative that it was only the second such school building in Osaka City. This model was chosen alongside another for Bunkyo Junior High in the Abiko ward. The school soon became a cornerstone of the community, serving students from the Takatsuki, Takabashi, and Takabashi-Minami Elementary schools. Asahi Junior High School has a unique tradition. During ceremonies like entrance ceremonies, they welcome students with songs. This practice continues to this day, a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering a welcoming and vibrant learning environment. Over the years, Asahi Junior High has witnessed countless students pass through its halls. It has seen the city of Osaka grow and change around it. The school stands as a proud symbol of education and community in the heart of Kikyō ward.
