“Can you imagine this place used to be an old theater stage?” whispered one student to another. They were standing in front of a sprawling school building, the Takatsuki City Second Junior High School. You wouldn’t guess it now, but this place, the Takatsuki City Second Junior High School, was once a lively performance space. Established in 1949, it was the second municipal junior high school in Takatsuki. The school, often nicknamed “Nichu,” holds a special connection to its past. The very ground on which it stands was once the site of the former Takatsuki Municipal Theater. But there’s more to this school than just its theatrical beginnings. During the construction of the Meishin Expressway, an ancient burial mound, the Doboyama Kofun, was unearthed right here on the school grounds. Today, the unearthed kofun rests within the school boundaries, a constant reminder of the history embedded in the very fabric of Takatsuki City Second Junior High School. This school, with its diverse student body representing a mix of commercial, residential, and even agricultural areas, fosters a vibrant learning environment. And as you walk through these halls, remember, you’re walking in the footsteps of history, of theater performances, ancient discoveries, and generations of students who once called Takatsuki City Second Junior High School their own.
