“Imagine a place of peace near the airport.” That’s the Islamic Information Center. This center also known as Masjid Al-Noor stands as a beacon of faith. It offers understanding in the heart of Las Vegas.
Masjid Al-Noor was founded in 2002 by Dr. Khaliq Baig. He wanted to create a place of worship. It should be close to the airport and UNLV. The center quickly became more than just a mosque. It transformed into a vital hub for the local Muslim community.
For years the Al-Noor Masjid served many purposes. It was a place for prayers. It was a hub for Muslim families. A weekend Islamic school educated children. The youth found a learning place. Sisters and brothers gathered for Halaqah. Counseling burial and marriage services were also provided.
The old building became too small. The Muslim community was growing. A new Masjid was needed. A 1.62-acre site was purchased. It was located on Russell Road near McCarran International Airport. The location was perfect.
The old building was torn down in March 2015. Construction of a new Masjid began. Plans included a Hifz School. An early Childhood Development Center was also planned. A Youth Development Center and a library were in the works. The aim was to meet the needs of the growing community.
The project needed funds. Generous community members donated. Great Muslim scholars like Sheikh Yusuf Estes and Sheikh Yasir Qadhi helped. They participated in fundraising. Over $600000 was raised.
The new Masjid Al-Noor building project cost about $2000000. The community still needed $18500 for windows. Every donation helped build this house of Allah.
Masjid Al-Noor offers many amenities. There are wash and restroom facilities. Parking is available. The mosque provides facilities for women. Wheelchair access is available.
The Islamic Information Center’s mission is clear. It wants to improve understanding about Islam. It aims to develop interfaith dialogue. Its goal is to improve relationships between communities. The center wants to be a key institution. It should help families and children learn about Islam. They learn according to the Quran and Sunnah.
The vision for children is a Junior Scholar Program. The vision for youth involves realizing Islam as a way of life. The vision for the community is building understanding and respect.
