What began as a small prayer group in 1972 has blossomed into a global network. We are standing before Iglesia De Dios Ministerial. It is located in Woodside New York. This church is part of the Church of God Ministry of Jesus Christ International.
The Church of God Ministry of Jesus Christ International’s roots trace back to Luis Eduardo Moreno. He and his mother Maria Jesus Moreno journeyed through various Christian denominations. Luis Eduardo served as a preacher. His wife Maria Luisa Piraquive joined them after their marriage in 1966.
Disagreements arose between Luis Eduardo and leaders. He felt pressured to grow the churches under his care. The Moreno Piraquive family stopped attending church. They chose to pray at home.
In 1972 during prayers God gave them instructions. This happened at their house with a small group. This prophecy guided the Church of God Ministry of Jesus Christ International. The church expanded throughout Colombia. It now has locations in over 300 Colombian municipalities.
In 1997 the word International was added to the church’s name. In 2000 church leaders created a political party in Colombia. It is called MIRA. The current president is Colombian Senator Manuel Virguez Piraquive.
Iglesia De Dios Ministerial is part of a charismatic denomination. Prophecy is a key feature. The Holy Spirit speaks through a human instrument. This reminds people of the early Christian Church. Paul mentioned prophecy in his letters. John also mentioned it in his Gospel.
Prophecies are often individual. They address a person’s past present and future. They offer specific promises. These promises include healing happiness and prosperity. They also give commandments for life. People often share testimonies. They speak about fulfilled promises in public services.
The gift of tongues is also important. It signifies baptism by the Holy Spirit. This resembles Pentecost in the New Testament. Other gifts include healing visions and dream interpretation. Believers are encouraged to seek these gifts in prayer. This allows for personal experiences with God.
Beyond religious activities the church offers social assistance. It provides educational programs and health services. This mainly occurs in Colombia. The Maria Luisa de Moreno International Foundation is key. It was founded in 2000. Its mottos are “Help at all levels” and “Architects of hearts”. The NGO distributes food and promotes education. It also supports the rights of disabled people.
The Zion International magazine is the church’s official publication. It covers biblical topics and church activities. It is published quarterly in English and Spanish.
This Iglesia De Dios Ministerial location opened November 17 2018. Maria Luisa Piraquive led the congregation in reading Psalms 46. The location can fit 900 people. It also has a built-in baptistry. Worship services happen on Monday Thursday and Friday. Bible study is on Tuesday and Saturday. Teaching occurs on Wednesday and Sunday. The Iglesia De Dios Ministerial welcomes all.
