“Unique” doesn’t even begin to describe Ga East Municipal District. It’s a place carved from history and brimming with potential. Ga East Municipal District is one of Ghana’s twenty-nine districts in the Greater Accra Region. Its story is one of division and growth.
Once upon a time in 1988, there was just one big Ga District. This district encompassed a large area within the capital of Ghana. But things changed. The eastern part of this district broke away. It became the Ga East District. The remaining part was then called Ga West District.
Time moved on. February 29, 2008, marked a new chapter. Ga East District became the Ga East Municipal District. This elevation signified progress and development. But the story didn’t end there.
On June 28, 2012, history repeated itself. The eastern part of Ga East Municipal District split again. This time, it formed the La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal District. What remained was still Ga East Municipal District.
Today, Abokobi serves as its capital town. Ga East is bordered by other districts. To the north lies Akuapim South District in the Eastern Region. Ga West District is to the west. Accra Metropolis District is to the south. Tema Metropolis District sits to the east.
Ga East is known for its appeal to the elite. The municipality boasts well-planned layouts. It has attracted real estate companies. Oak Villa, Regimanuel Gray and Edlorm Estate have all invested here.
The Ga East Municipal Assembly leads the district. It consists of 18 members. Twelve are elected. Six are government appointees. The Municipal Chief Executive represents the Head of State.
The Assembly focuses on improving lives. It delivers socio-economic services. It promotes good governance. It strives for sustainable development.
The vision is clear. Ga East wants to be a professional and dynamic Assembly. It wants to be sensitive to its clients’ needs. Its mission is to improve the quality of life. This will be done by providing basic services.
Ga East Municipal District continues to evolve. It embraces its history. It strives for a better future.
