A hushed reverence hangs in the air. Welcome to Kuwate Tenjinja Shrine. More commonly known as the Kawa Tsuchi Tenjin Sha. This unassuming shrine holds a captivating history. It’s a story woven with illness faith and a princess.

The Kawa Tsuchi Tenjin Sha isn’t just any shrine. It’s deeply rooted in the heart of Higashisumiyoshi-ku Osaka. Its location is significant. It’s nestled in the Kuwate district. This is where Princess Kamanagahime once resided. This princess was the daughter of Emperor Junnin.

Princess Kamanagahime was a remarkable figure. She was known for her beauty and grace. Sadly she fell gravely ill. Her father the Emperor desperately sought a cure. He prayed to the god Sujin. This was to ensure his daughter’s recovery.

The Emperor’s prayers were answered. A miracle occurred. His daughter was cured. To commemorate this event. He ordered the construction of a shrine. This was in honor of the god who answered his prayers. This shrine was dedicated to Sukunabikona. This deity is also known as Sukunabikona-no-Mikoto.

Over the centuries the shrine has evolved. It now houses a collection of deities. Eleven deities to be exact. These include Sukunahikona-no-Mikoto. There is also Kusunoki Masashige. There is also Naka-yori-shige-Mikoto. Other deities include Takemizusubito. This also includes others such as Hayakawa Kikuji. Additional deities are enshrined there. They include Amaterasu.

One interesting fact is that the shrine’s current location isn’t its original site. It moved to its current address some time ago. The exact original location is still not entirely clear. The shrine has maintained its strong connections to the community.

Today the Kawa Tsuchi Tenjin Sha continues to be a place of worship and solace. It serves as a reminder of the past. It also serves as a beacon of hope for the future. The shrine stands as a testament to faith healing and resilience. It’s a place where you can feel the weight of history. You can also feel the palpable sense of devotion. Feel free to explore this significant part of Osaka’s cultural heritage.
