Did you ever imagine a golf course hosting a major championship, only to fade into the rough of history? Here at Pecan Valley Golf Club, the echoes of legendary shots linger. Pecan Valley Golf Club opened its doors in 1963, designed by J. Press Maxwell. The course saw a stylish renovation in 1998 by Bob Cupp, breathing new life into its fairways and greens. Pecan Valley wasn’t just any golf course. It hosted the Texas Open Invitational several times, drawing golf’s biggest names to San Antonio. And in 1968, Pecan Valley stepped onto the grand stage, hosting the PGA Championship. A 48-year-old Julius Boros clinched his third major title here, etching his name into Pecan Valley’s history. This course also welcomed the Alamo Ladies’ Open and even the U.S. Amateur Public Links. But sadly, Pecan Valley Golf Club closed its doors in 2012. A major championship venue gone silent. The future remains uncertain. There’s talk of redevelopment, maybe even a new nine-hole course designed for players with limited mobility. But for now, we stand here, remembering the glory days of Pecan Valley Golf Club, a course that once resonated with the cheers of champions.
