“A hidden gem in Salzburg” whispered a fellow tourist. That’s how I discovered the Kleines Theater.

Nestled on Schallmooser Hauptstrasse 50 the Kleines Theater is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant hub for Salzburg’s artistic soul. Founded in 1984 as Das Kleine Theater Schallmoos under Claus Tröger’s direction it quickly gained a reputation for showcasing exceptional talent. The intimate setting with a capacity for 150 people creates an unparalleled connection between performers and audience. Imagine the energy the laughter the shared emotions.

The theater wasn’t always so successful. In 1999 a second venue Theater Metropolis faced bankruptcy closing its doors. Undeterred Ferdinand L Jansky stepped in. He volunteered his time to lead the Kleines Theater from 2000 to 2006 ensuring its survival. His dedication saved a vital part of Salzburg’s cultural landscape.

Since 2007 the Kleines Theater has flourished. It shifted from a single director model to a collaborative artistic leadership. Peter Blaikner and his team including talented individuals like Thomas Doppler Gerda Gratzer and others steer the theater’s diverse programming. The Kleines Theater is now home to contemporary theater cabaret and children’s shows. It’s a place where creativity thrives.

It’s not just about the performances. The theater actively engages with local schools and kindergartens. They nurture the next generation of artists and theatergoers. This community involvement makes the Kleines Theater an essential part of Salzburg. It’s a testament to its commitment to fostering art and culture.

The Kleines Theater isn’t just a theater. It’s a testament to the resilience of the arts. It’s a vital part of Salzburg’s cultural fabric. It is a story of dedication passion and the enduring power of artistic expression. Visit the Kleines Theater. Experience the magic for yourself.
