Whispers of miracles and divine intervention followed San Miguel de los Santos throughout his life. Right here at the Parroquia de San Miguel de los Santos in Madrid, we celebrate this remarkable man. This parish church, inaugurated on March 13, 1966, by Archbishop Casimiro Morcillo, serves as a testament to his devotion. Born Miguel Jerónimo José on September 29, 1591, in Vic, Barcelona, his life was marked by early loss and profound faith. Even as a child, he displayed remarkable piety. He practiced penance, fasted, and aided the poor. One story recounts him sleeping under his bed, using vines as a mattress and a stone as a pillow. At the tender age of nine, he vowed chastity at the feet of the Virgin Mary. He embraced the religious life, joining the Trinitarian Order at twelve. His fervent prayers and devotion inspired those around him. He took the name Miguel, honoring the Archangel whose feast day coincided with his birth. His preaching resonated deeply with people, leading to numerous conversions. He was known for his mystical experiences, including ecstasies and a purported exchange of hearts with Christ himself. San Miguel de los Santos was a man of deep mystical connection. He was known as “the saint of the Eucharist” due to his profound love for the sacrament. Sadly, he died at just 33. His remains rest beneath the main altar of the Church of San Nicolás de los Trinitarios in Valladolid. He was canonized by Pope Pius IX in 1862 and declared the patron saint of his birthplace, Vic, by Pope John XXIII. The Parroquia de San Miguel de los Santos stands as a reminder of this extraordinary life, a beacon of faith in the heart of Madrid. His feast day is celebrated on July 5th. Remember, as San Miguel de los Santos himself said, “I believe in God, I hope in God, I love God.”
