Did Michael, Celin, Hasitha, Rachelle, and Yohan know their baptisms would breathe new life into the Van Nuys Seventh-Day Adventist Church? This church, nestled at 14615 Sherman Way in Van Nuys, California, has witnessed its share of challenges. In 2022, the Van Nuys Seventh-Day Adventist Church was struck by vandalism. A man broke in, ransacked the church, and then vanished into the night. COVID-19 and internal conflicts also cast a shadow over the congregation. But even in darkness, faith finds a way. Pastor Ron Park guided these five individuals through Bible studies, some in person, some via Zoom. Michael, connected to the church through a prison ministry worker, found his way to Van Nuys and Pastor Park after his release. Celin, drawn by Adventist television programming, discovered the Van Nuys Seventh-Day Adventist Church and quickly became an active member. Hasitha, seeking the Sabbath message, found community with the church’s young adults. Rachelle, following her husband’s lead, felt the call to baptism after a year of attending the Van Nuys Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Yohan, influenced by a relative already part of the congregation, felt a similar call. Their baptisms marked a turning point for the Van Nuys Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Their stories inspired the existing members, rekindling their dedication to ministry. The church, with a membership of 290 and led by Pastor Marco A. Topete, offers Sabbath School at 9:30 am and Church service at 10:50 am in English. The Van Nuys Seventh-Day Adventist Church continues to grow and offer new programs like “Adventist 101,” designed to nurture new members and newcomers alike, furthering its mission in the community. The church even has its own website: vannuysca.adventistchurch.org. This church, a beacon of faith, stands as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of community.
