On a crisp autumn day in 1908, the seeds of Advent Gravesend Church were sown. The church, nestled in the heart of Brooklyn, has a fascinating history. Advent Gravesend Church was officially organized during the Advent season of that year. Construction began in 1909. The sanctuary where worshippers gather today was dedicated in 1929. This signifies not just a building, but the growth of a community and its faith. Advent Gravesend Church wasn’t always as you see it today. In 1979, Advent Lutheran Church merged with Gravesend Reformed Church. This union formed the Advent-Gravesend Church we know now. This partnership brought together two distinct congregations under one roof, creating a richer, more diverse community. The original Advent Lutheran Church building now houses the unified congregation. The church boasts a historic M.P. Möller organ, Opus 5655. Installed in 1930, this magnificent instrument filled the sanctuary with music for decades. It features two manuals, sixteen stops, and nine ranks. The organ was voiced on 3″ wind pressure and boasted a stop-key console. The church is more than just bricks and mortar. It echoes with the voices of generations past and present, each adding their own verse to the ongoing hymn of Advent Gravesend Church.
