“Before you stands a testament to faith and resilience Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Hiếu Liêm.” This church has a story etched in its very foundation. Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Hiếu Liêm stands as a beacon.
Before 1960 a few Catholic families lived in Hiếu Liêm. They traveled to nearby churches for religious services. Father Dominh Nguyen Trinh Doan was assigned to Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Hiếu Liêm in July 1960. After a few months Father Dominh and the parishioners built a chapel. It served as a place for Mass and prayer. The chapel was destroyed due to war after 1965. Some parishioners scattered.
Ten years later people returned. They came from Ha Tinh and Cambodia. They resettled in the Hiếu Liêm area. Parishioners attended services in Dai An Church and Thach An Parish. The name Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Hiếu Liêm was forgotten.
On September 16 1993 Father Phêrô Cao Thọ Lanh took over Thiện An Church. He also administered Hiếu Liêm Parish. Initially Father Phêrô celebrated Mass at a parishioner’s house on Sundays. A year later Father Phêrô and the community built a church. It had wooden walls a tile roof and a brick floor. It measured 15m x 8m. The Hiếu Liêm community finally had a worthy place to worship God.
Through the tenures of quản nhiệm Fathers the faith of the Hiếu Liêm community grew stronger. Activities gradually stabilized. Currently Father Giuse Cao Đức Long is in charge. He oversees GHBL Hiếu Liêm. He also manages Cây Sung Church. It is 30 km away and has 800 parishioners. With Father Giuse’s help GHBL Hiếu Liêm and Cây Sung Church are stable. The parishioners’ faith is increasingly strong.
On September 8 2020 Father Phaolô Phạm Quang Vinh was appointed. He continues to care for and guide the parish.
Nhà thờ Giáo xứ Hiếu Liêm is bounded by Lợi Hà Parish to the east. To the west is Đại An Parish. Nam Cát Tiên forest is to the south. Thiện An Parish is to the north. The area spans 60 km2.
