Gazing upon Chisholm Catholic College, can you sense the echoes of its vibrant history? Chisholm Catholic College opened its doors in 1992. It started with a small cohort of 60 Year 8 students and eleven dedicated staff members. The college was initially housed in just three buildings, situated on an expansive 11-hectare site. Chisholm Catholic College quickly became a cornerstone of the community, one of the first private schools in the district. The college is named after Caroline Chisholm, a remarkable woman known for her social reform and charitable work, particularly her focus on helping female immigrants find respectable employment and access education. Her legacy of compassion and empowerment is woven into the fabric of Chisholm Catholic College. Students at Chisholm Catholic College are divided among six houses. Each house is named after a prominent Australian figure: Flynn (blue), Mackillop (yellow), Namatjira (red), Oodgeroo (purple), Parer (green), and Mitchell (orange). This system fosters a sense of community and friendly competition. Chisholm Catholic College boasts fourteen buildings, many named after native Australian flora. The original buildings, Acacia, Cassia, and Eucalyptus, have been renovated and repurposed to meet the evolving needs of the school. Acacia now serves as the administration block. Cassia houses science labs. Eucalyptus now contains art rooms, a computer lab, and a hospitality kitchen. Newer additions, like the Caroline Chisholm Centre, provide modern spaces for events and gatherings. The Dianella building, known as the “Dining Room,” offers a restaurant-style kitchen for hospitality events. Flindersia boasts eight innovative classrooms with interactive learning tools. The school’s commitment to providing a rich learning environment is evident in facilities like the Ixora library, the Hakea technology center, and the Father Gary Russell Centre for music and drama. Chisholm Catholic College stands as a testament to the vision of its founders and the enduring spirit of its namesake. It continues to nurture young minds and empower future generations.
