This graceful building before you is no longer a house of worship. Grace Lutheran Church once stood here. In 1990, it merged with Immanuel Lutheran Church. The congregation relocated to a new building on Canal Boulevard. This beautiful building has been repurposed as a restaurant. You can still see remnants of its past life. The wood enclosure at the rear was originally the church’s “cry room”, now a bar. The stained glass at the rear of the altar area remains, though it now leads to the kitchen. The original altar? Now a waiter’s station. Imagine the echoes of hymns replaced by the clinking of glasses and lively chatter. It’s a unique transformation, a testament to the city’s ability to adapt and reinvent, even as it cherishes its past.
