Journey back to 1948. Xã Yên Thường was nestled within Từ Sơn district, Bắc Ninh province. Then, in a twist of history, Xã Yên Thường became part of Hanoi. The government issued Decree 120-SL, redrawing the map and placing Xã Yên Thường under the administration of Hanoi’s Gia Lâm district. But the story doesn’t end there. On July 9th, 1948, three villages—Thiện Đức, Định Vàng, and our very own Xã Yên Thường—merged. They formed a new entity: Quang Trung commune. This union, however, was short-lived. In 1961, the National Assembly decided to incorporate Quang Trung commune into Hanoi. Later that year, the government split Quang Trung into two parts: Quang Trung I and Quang Trung II. Quang Trung II, our Xã Yên Thường, found its place within Gia Lâm district. Fast forward to 1964, and Quang Trung II reclaimed its original name: Xã Yên Thường, comprised of nine villages. Xã Yên Thường today covers an area of 8.67 square kilometers. As of 2022, almost 19,000 people called this place home. Did you know Xã Yên Thường is bordered by Bắc Ninh province to the east, Đông Anh district to the north and west, and the town of Yên Viên and other communes to the south? The modern Xã Yên Thường is a blend of old and new. It still holds the echoes of its past. But it also embraces the future with planned road developments connecting it to Hanoi and beyond.
