Hidden amongst the bustle of Queens Village lies a haven of play and community spirit. Pat Williams Playground a vibrant testament to the legacy of a remarkable woman. This isn’t just any playground. It’s a place imbued with history and heart.

Pat Williams a tireless community activist dedicated her life to improving Queens Village. She fought tirelessly against drug dealing. She raised funds organized events and secured vital resources for local organizations. Her impact resonated deeply. The playground bears her name a fitting tribute to her unwavering commitment.

Originally named for its proximity to the Cross Island Parkway the playground underwent a significant transformation. In 2016 an $800000 renovation project began. This revitalization included brand new playground equipment. Safe surfacing replaced old pavement eliminating tripping hazards. The project also added fitness equipment for adults and new trees providing shade. These trees also act as a natural buffer between the playground and the busy Cross Island Parkway. The renovation was completed in May 2017 two months ahead of schedule.

The funding for this amazing transformation came from a variety of sources. The City Council contributed $730000. Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office added an additional $160000. The renovated Pat Williams Playground reopened in the spring of 2017. It features two play areas a swing set a new basketball court and fitness equipment for adults.

This playground is more than just swings and slides. It’s a symbol of community resilience and the lasting impact of one dedicated woman. It is a space where children laugh and play.
