This housing area has faced its share of challenges. A project to build a housing complex for faculty members of King Saud University began in Al-Mezahimiyah. The project’s estimated cost was around half a billion riyals. The 450-apartment complex experienced delays.
Interestingly, there was confusion regarding who was in charge of the project. King Saud University spokesman Dr. Ahmed Al-Tamimi said that the university had nothing to do with the project. He said that the Ministry of Education was running it. But the ministry’s spokesman, Mubarak Al-Osaimi, insisted that the university was the authority responsible.
The housing project south of King Abdulaziz Road includes 60 buildings. Thirty buildings have 300 apartments each. The other 30 have 150 apartments each.
Adding to the complications, a contract for completing switch gear rooms also faltered. The contract worth SR4,463,218 was awarded about two years ago. The condition was that the work must be completed in 300 days.
