Now, a word of caution. There is another church called Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the Houston Heights neighborhood. It was founded in 1895. Reverend L. W. Williams started it in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Grant. The first structure was a brush arbor. In 1961, the present sanctuary was erected. Dynamic spiritual leaders have guided the congregation. They include Reverends G. R. Alford, E. D. Carrington, and Dr. Ralph D. West. Reverend Carrington changed the church’s name. Dr. Gaidi K. Burgess became pastor on December 18, 2005.
Greater Mt. Zion recently relocated to a larger facility. This move allowed for classroom space and a gymnasium. It also allowed for future expansion and ministry growth. A state-of-the-art family life center is envisioned. Please do not confuse this church with the one we are visiting today: Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
