In 1896, a seed of faith was planted in Taringa. This seed blossomed into what we now know as the Taringa Baptist Church. Taringa Baptist Church has witnessed the ebb and flow of Brisbane life for over a century. The church stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith. Originally established in 1896, the current building we see before us dates back to 1979. It replaced an earlier structure, renovated in 1936. This newer building, located at 36 Morrow Street, is a two-story structure with a distinctive skillion roof. The church has served the spiritual needs of the community for generations. It continues to be a beacon of hope and fellowship for the people of Taringa. Inside the Taringa Baptist Church, a unique piece of history resides. A pipe organ, built by H.W. Jarrott of Brisbane around 1957, graces the sanctuary. Originally installed in the former church building, it was carefully moved to the new structure in 1979. This organ, with its single manual, three speaking stops, and electric action, offers a unique auditory experience. It connects the present congregation with the church’s rich musical past. Sadly, the console was placed in storage around 2007 and the entire organ was removed to storage in 2013. It awaits a future restoration. Taringa Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a vibrant, multicultural community with a heart for worship. The church embraces diversity, welcoming people from all walks of life. They gather every Sunday at 9:30 am to celebrate their faith. They share in the word of God and experience His presence. Taringa Baptist Church is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a living testament to the power of faith, community, and the enduring spirit of the people of Taringa.
