A church with a story. It’s not just a place of worship but a symbol of resilience and community. You see, Serbisch-Orthodoxe Kirche in Augsburg has a rich history. It’s a testament to the journey of Serbian immigrants in Germany. They came to Augsburg in the 1960s in search of work, but their religious faith remained an integral part of their lives. They formed a community, gathering in homes and borrowed spaces for prayers.
After decades of being a nomadic community they found refuge in a former neo-apostol church on Kreutzerstraße. It was here where they finally found a space they could call their own. They poured their hearts and souls into transforming it into a home for their faith and traditions. They even built a new tower, a symbol of their unwavering commitment to their beliefs.
The community, now 125 strong, celebrates their patron saints – St. Stefan and Helena – every year with a feast. The church is filled with straw – a tradition, a celebration of their history and unity.
The church is a beacon for the Serbian community in Augsburg. It is a place where they can come together to pray, share stories and celebrate life’s milestones. It’s where tradition meets modernity and where the spirit of community thrives.
