Isn’t it amazing how a simple building can hold so many stories? We are standing before the Music Hall of Williamsburg. It is more than just a music venue. This place pulses with the energy of countless performances. It echoes with the laughter and cheers of concertgoers.
Before it was the Music Hall of Williamsburg, it was known as Northsix. This was back in the spring of 2001. Northsix quickly became a vital part of Brooklyn’s music scene. Manhattan used to be the only place for indie rock. Northsix changed that.
The Village Voice named Northsix “Best New Rock Club” in 2002. New York Press readers agreed. They voted it “Best Rock Club” and “Best Williamsburg Music Venue”. Its eclectic booking schedule was very famous.
In 2003, Northsix played a role in the movie “School of Rock”. The opening scene was filmed right here. Imagine Jack Black strutting through these doors.
Northsix also hosted Elliott Smith’s last New York performances in June 2003. These critically acclaimed shows became legendary after his death later that year. The Music Hall of Williamsburg carries that legacy.
The New York City Fire Department shut Northsix down briefly in March 2003. This was due to a controversial booking. Many believed it was retaliation for the band’s criticism of the department. After a month of negotiations, the venue reopened.
In 2007, Bowery Presents acquired Northsix. The venue was remodeled, renovated, and reborn as the Music Hall of Williamsburg. The Bowery Presents was later bought by AEG in 2017.
Today, the Music Hall of Williamsburg continues to thrive. It hosts shows most nights of the week. The venue’s capacity is 650 people. Its three levels offer unique views and experiences. Bars are conveniently located on each floor.
The Music Hall of Williamsburg isn’t just for concerts. It is a versatile space. It can host corporate events, weddings, and even movie shoots. The customizable marquee adds a personal touch.
The Music Hall of Williamsburg stands as a testament to Brooklyn’s vibrant culture. It is a place where music history continues to be made. Take a moment to soak it all in.
