“A school? What’s so special about that?” Well let me tell you about Daewon Elementary School. It is more than just a school. It is a place of history and learning in Seongnam South Korea.

Daewon Elementary School first opened its doors on September 1 1971. At that time it was known as Daewon National School. It started with 16 classes. The school has grown and changed over the years.

In 1974 Daewon was designated as a special activity research school by the Ministry of Education. This shows the school’s commitment to innovative education. Then in 1992 Seongnam City recognized Daewon as a gifted child demonstration school. This highlights Daewon’s focus on nurturing talented students.

The name officially changed to Daewon Elementary School in 1996. This marked a new chapter in the school’s history. Two years later in 1998 Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education designated Daewon as an economic education demonstration school. This shows Daewon’s dedication to teaching students about economics.

Daewon Elementary School continued to evolve in the 2000s. In 2003 it became a pilot school for the professor learning assistance center. It operated as such for three years. Throughout the years Daewon has seen many principals. Mr Choi Chang-il became the 11th principal in 2002. Mr Park Joo-ha took over as the 12th principal in 2004. Mr Ko Chang-il became the 13th principal in 2006. Mr Jang Myeong-seok became the 14th in 2009. Ms Lee Jong-hee became the 15th principal in 2011. Ms Park Seon-hee became the 16th principal in 2013.

Daewon Elementary School has consistently focused on student welfare. In 2009 the Dream Start School Social Welfare Room was established. In 2013 Daewon was selected as a priority support business school for educational welfare by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education.

Daewon Elementary School temporarily closed in March 2023 due to redevelopment in the surrounding area. It is scheduled to reopen in April 2028. As of April 1 2014 the school had 615 students and 63 faculty members.

Daewon Elementary School’s symbols represent its values. The school flower is the rose. The school tree is the ginkgo. These symbols embody the school’s spirit and aspirations.

Daewon Elementary School has a rich history. It has a commitment to education and student well-being. It is a place where students can learn grow and reach their full potential. As we stand here let us appreciate the legacy of Daewon Elementary School. It has shaped the lives of countless students.
