Curious how two villages became one? Petershagen-Eggersdorf is a municipality born from the merger of Petershagen and Eggersdorf in 1993. This union created a vibrant community in Brandenburg Germany.

Petershagen-Eggersdorf sits 30 kilometers east of Berlin’s center. It offers a blend of historical charm and modern living. The municipality is easily accessible and well-connected.

Let’s dive into some history. Petershagen and Eggersdorf were once part of the Niederbarnim district. This was in the Brandenburg province. Later they fell under the district of Strausberg. Since 1993 Petershagen-Eggersdorf has been part of the Märkisch-Oderland district.

The S-Bahn line S5 connects Petershagen-Eggersdorf to Berlin. Petershagen Nord station makes commuting easy. There used to be a Petershagen Süd station. It was on a line to Rüdersdorf but that line is now closed.

The Bötzsee lake is a notable natural feature. It is in the Eggersdorf part of the municipality. This lake likely formed during the Weichsel Ice Age. The Fredersdorfer Mühlenfließ river flows in and out of it.

Petershagen-Eggersdorf has many local partnerships. Petershagen in North Rhine-Westphalia is one. Westheim in Rhineland-Palatinate is another. They even have partnerships with Dowsk in Belarus and Bogdaniec in Poland.

Don’t miss the Evangelische Petruskirche Petershagen. It was completed in 1910. This church features a neo-Gothic brick building. It stands on the site of two previous churches. The first was a medieval fieldstone building. A baroque timber-framed building followed in 1702.

Inside the Petruskirche admire the Jugendstil decorations. The high baroque pulpit is a gift. It comes from the Friedrichsfelde church community. The organ was made by the Gebrüder Dinse company in Berlin. A contemporary cross from El Salvador hangs in the north side aisle.

The Evangelische Dorfkirche Eggersdorf is another notable church. It was built in 1870. Its yellow brick stands out. The church is beautifully illuminated at night after extensive renovations.

For those interested in local arts the Blaskapelle St. Hubertus is worth mentioning. It belongs to the Catholic Church St. Hubertus. It was founded in 1961.

The Petershagen-Eggersdorf municipal council has 28 members. The mayor leads the council. Marco Rutter from the FDP is the current mayor. He was elected in 2018.

The municipality’s coat of arms is quite symbolic. It features a golden key a silver steinbock and a silver star. These symbols represent different aspects of the area’s history.

Petershagen-Eggersdorf continues to evolve. It balances its historical roots with modern development. The twin towns and active community groups add to its charm. The municipality offers something for everyone whether you’re into history nature or culture.
