The aroma of hops hangs heavy in the air. This is Other Half Brewery.

Founded in 2014 Other Half Brewery quickly became a Brooklyn sensation. Sam Richardson Matt Monahan and Andrew Burman had a simple mission. They wanted to brew beers they enjoyed. They wanted to be part of a company they believed in. They succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.

Sam Richardson a Portland Oregon native studied Fermentation Science. He honed his skills at The Ram in Seattle and Pyramid Brewing. A fateful trip to New York City changed everything. He landed a job at Greenpoint Beer Works. There he met Matt Monahan a chef with a passion for homebrewing. Their collaboration with fellow chef Andrew Burman led to the creation of Other Half.

After navigating New York City bureaucracy they opened their brewery in a Gowanus Expressway warehouse. Their initial success came from building relationships with local restaurants and taprooms. Other Half IPA a West Coast style IPA quickly gained a following. Their Cascadian Dark Ale and Imperial Stout also proved popular.

A change in New York State law in 2014 allowed direct-to-consumer sales. This led to the opening of their first taproom. Limited canning runs further fueled their growth. The arrival of their first New England-style IPA All Green Everything was a landmark moment. It was a New York City first. Their innovative can art and numerous collaborations across the US cemented their place in the craft beer world.

Other Half’s focus remained on quality. They kept batch sizes reasonable. They prioritized aromatic hops and a smooth mouthfeel. Their meticulous hop selection and strong hop contracts contributed to their success. Their culinary backgrounds fueled innovation.

Their popularity led to a second Brooklyn taproom in 2017. An innovation brewery and taproom followed in Rochester New York in 2018. Further expansion is planned. A Williamsburg location and a Washington DC location are in the works.

Other Half Brewery’s story is one of passion dedication and a commitment to quality. They have become a leading East Coast brewery transforming the craft beer landscape. Raise a glass to their continued success.
