Once two separate entities, now united. Welcome to Antas e Abade de Vermoim. This parish tells a tale of merging identities and shared history.

Antas was once a parish. It was also a district within Porto. Despite not being a formal freguesia, it was quite large. Its heart resided in the Igreja Paroquial de Santo António das Antas. Aristocrats called this noble area home.

The area of Antas spans the freguesias of Bonfim, Campanhã, and Paranhos. Praça Francisco Sá Carneiro served as its central hub. Avenida de Fernão de Magalhães formed its backbone. Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra is another important street here.

The name Antas gained global recognition. This was due to the old stadium of Futebol Clube do Porto. The stadium shared the same name. Santo António is the patron saint of the Antas parish. Francisco Xavier da Silva Pereira held several titles. He was the 1st Baron of Antas. Also the 1st Viscount of Antas and the 1st Count of Antas.

Abade de Vermoim once stood as a Portuguese freguesia. It belonged to the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão. This was in the district of Braga. However, on January 28, 2013, it was suppressed. This happened following a resolution by the Portuguese Assembly. It joined with Antas. Together they formed the new freguesia of Antas e Abade de Vermoim.

In 1747, Santa Maria de Abade de Vermoim was part of Barcelos. It fell under the ecclesiastical district of Braga. It was also under the secular district of Viana. The parish church was dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Assunção.

The land produced rye, corn and vinho verde. The residents relied on well water. This was because of the lack of natural springs.

Abade de Vermoim is located five kilometers from the municipal seat. In 1900, the freguesia of Antas was annexed to it. This was by decree of July 15, 1890.

Today, Antas e Abade de Vermoim stands as a testament to unity. It represents the merging of two distinct histories into one shared identity. It is a vibrant community. It continues to evolve while cherishing its past.
