Have you ever heard of a church that started in a tent? Right here in Los Angeles, Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church has just such a story. Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church was officially organized in 1942. Reverend Floyd Hamilton was the organizing pastor. The church grew rapidly. In the mid-1940s, they even held Sunday school in a tent to accommodate over 150 children. Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church continued to thrive. In 1949, Reverend David Calderwood became pastor. The church’s name changed briefly to Greyfriars Memorial. During this time, three young men from the congregation began their journeys to ministry. Rollin Keller, David Moore, and Mike Stingley took turns preaching during evening services. All three went on to become ordained OPC ministers. Remarkably, Rollin Keller returned to Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church. He served as pastor from 1983 to 2003. The church also returned to its original name. Today, Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church continues its legacy of faith and community here in Los Angeles. The church’s current pastor is Reverend Joshua Lyon. He has served the congregation since 2013. The spirit of those early tent meetings still resonates today. Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church remains a vital part of the Los Angeles religious landscape.
