“When Our Praise Goes Up, His Glory Comes Down” That’s the inspiring theme that once echoed within The Church of Pentecost Akweteyman during a special event. Imagine the children’s ministry hosting its second annual Altar of Praise. The air crackled with joyful anticipation.
The Church of Pentecost Akweteyman is more than just a building. It is a place where faith comes alive. It is a place where even the youngest members are encouraged to express their devotion.
Back then, Apostle Joseph Danzerl, the Achimota Area Head, presided over the Altar of Praise. He emphasized the importance of praise. He said it unlocks a joyful and content life. He encouraged instilling the spirit of Pentecostalism in children. Praise helps them actively participate and become part of the church family.
Apostle Danzerl quoted Matthew 21:16. He highlighted that children praising Jesus gives parents a chance to model faith and encourage a God-pleasing life. The Lord cherishes the pure hearts of children. Parents should guide them in God’s ways.
He declared that teaching children to praise The Lord is a gift. This strengthens their faith and guides them to know God. One hundred forty-two children participated in the Altar of Praise. Seventy-six adults joined them in worship.
The Church of Pentecost has a rich history. Its roots trace back to 1937. Rev. James McKeown, an Irish missionary, arrived in the Gold Coast now Ghana. He was sent by the Apostolic Church in the UK. He aimed to assist a group of Apostolic Faith believers. Rev. Peter Newman led this group in Asamankese. He later founded the Christ Apostolic Church.
Doctrinal differences emerged around divine healing. In 1939, the group split. The Christ Apostolic Church and the Apostolic Church Gold Coast were formed. The latter expanded greatly under Pastor James McKeown. In 1953, a crisis led to the establishment of the Gold Coast Apostolic Church. Pastor James McKeown led this new church.
In 1957, the Gold Coast became Ghana. The Gold Coast Apostolic Church was renamed the Ghana Apostolic Church. Conflicts persisted. President Kwame Nkrumah advised the church to adopt a new name. This would promote peace. On August 1 1962, The Church of Pentecost was legally established. It replaced the Ghana Apostolic Church.
The Church of Pentecost grew significantly. By 2022, it had over 4.2 million members worldwide. Children made up a substantial portion of this number. The church operated in many nations. Apostles, prophets, evangelists, and senior pastors led the way.
Today, The Church of Pentecost Akweteyman continues this legacy. It fosters faith, encourages praise, and welcomes all to experience the glory of God. Remember the children’s voices lifted in song. Remember the adults joining them in worship. Let us all strive to create a community of faith. Let us raise our voices. Let us allow His glory to descend.
