Picture this. You are standing in Singer Park a hidden gem in Pasadena. It’s a tranquil oasis nestled on the corner of California Boulevard and St John Avenue. This wasn’t always a public space.

Singer Park began as the private estate of Mrs Emma R Singer widow of H M Singer from Chicago. It’s important to note that she was not related to the Singer Sewing Machine family. Mrs Singer cherished her garden. It was her sanctuary a place of beauty and peace. Her roses were legendary. Varieties like Etoile de Hollande Gerona Charlotte Armstrong and the Texas Centennial flourished under her care.

More than just roses filled the garden. Mrs Singer cultivated a miniature arboretum. It showcased a remarkable collection of trees. There was the Ginkgo tree from China the rare Albizia Julibrissin from Persia. Irish Yews Podocarpus and a beautiful European Fan Palm also thrived. The diversity of plants was astonishing.

Mrs Singer’s love for her garden extended beyond her lifetime. She bequeathed the property to the City of Pasadena. Her generosity included a substantial sum for park maintenance. The sale of her home provided further funding. This act transformed her private paradise into a public space.

Today Singer Park offers a diverse collection of mature trees. It’s a refuge for migrating wildlife. Families create memories there playing on the playground enjoying picnics under the shade of ancient trees. This beautiful park is a testament to Mrs Singer’s vision. It’s a lasting legacy of beauty and generosity. A century later her gift continues to bring joy to the community. So enjoy this peaceful haven a living testament to Mrs Emma R Singer’s enduring legacy.
